That Was Close!

Week 4 Weigh In

I had been eating fairly well this week but the weight had not been coming off like before. I have a plateau to break through. I knew it was going to be close but I did manage to lose 700grams which sounds better when you call it one and a half pounds. I'm still leading the challenge. No-one lost more than 2Kg this week so I still have a good lead with a third of the challenge completed.

Weight loss this week 0.7kg
Total weight loss 8.7kg

Total percentage loss 8.9%

The 2nd and 3rd place have 3.4% and 3.2% loss.

I also won the spot prize tonight. A protein bar (that they are trying to sell) and an energy drink. Soon made light of the energy bar when I got in the car. I was starving! :)

Latest on how the family is going to spend the money from the challenge that I haven't won yet. Unhatched chickens come to mind but .... Adam and Laura think it's a waste of money spending $800 on Ironman entry when they could design an Iron distance course for me and support me in the madness.

I like their idea. I won't tell them they probably got it from me through osmosis. They're both designing courses on mapmyrun :)

If I win the challenge I will get a Garmin and then Jo and the kids can split the rest. That should buy their support for a self supported ironman distance training day. Might not be much money left if I get one of these though.

The master plan that is subject to change at my whim is:

December 2009 Rotorua Half Ironman
March 2010 100K Relay for Life
September 2010 or when it's warm - Ironman distance training day (Nothingman)

I think IronmanNZ 2010 would have been too soon after Rotorua anyway. Maybe 2011? Who knows?

A Mad Idea

Been a bit of a nothing training week ... AGAIN!

Things are finally settling down at work and I should be able to get into some sort of routine soon. New bloke starts tomorrow which should help us out.

Apart from an 18 min jog (wow!) with Laura on Monday I didn't do any training until Saturday. Slacker!!! What I did do though was buy another bike trainer so that me and Adam can both 'train' together. I'm looking forward to that. We did half hour on Saturday which was great.

I also ran on Saturday. I have it in my head that I am going to run/walk for the whole 20hrs of next year's Relay for Life. I have the target of 100K in my head as well. That's only 5K an hour. How hard can that be? (joke!).

So to that end I worked with some run/walk strategies on Saturday at our local track. Two laps of 440m (runners at the Relay use Lane 8) running at a very conservative pace and then a lap walking gives me about 8K/hr so with the inevitable slow down and predictable calf 'pull' at about midnight it should make it possible to get 100k in within the 20 hours.

No word of this to Jo, right???!!! At this stage I'm just blogging my thoughts out loud. I'll probably be injured and not take part but we'll see.

Sunday was back on the windtrainer for an hour. Not exactly the three hour ride I planned but at least I did something. Total training for the week was not much over 3 hours. I hope to be able to blog about an 8hr training week next week. I gotta get some consistency back!
