Day 18 - 18th July 2012

The first half of today was spent in A&E with Laura. She's OK now but we all had a big scare this morning. First we knew something was up was when she was being sick after getting out of the shower.

Jo went in to her and then started to help her back into bed but she was saying that she couldn't see. I was right in front of her and she was as white as a ghost and eyes were wide but she couldn't see me. I've never felt so scared and helpless in my life.

She was very calm. We led her to bed and as she lay down she said her vision was coming back but was black and blotchy. A minute later and it was back but she had ringing in the ears and felt sick. She said she felt OK to go to hospital though.

Loads of tests and an ECG later and they said it was 'just' a fainting episode where she hadn't gone the full hog of actually fainting. They said it was quite common in girls her age and the blacking out of sight is part of that. We hope it's just a one off. She seems OK now.

Hopefully she'll get a good night's sleep and be back to normal in the morning. She actually wanted to go back to school this afternoon for the last lesson. We didn't let her!

So, it's been an emotional and tiring day ... but I didn't want to use it as an excuse not to do something tonight. I went on the windtrainer and felt really good. The couple of rest days after Sunday's race must have been good for my legs. Unfortunately the good feeling didn't last the whole session. During the intervals I dialled back the efforts from 103/104 cadence to 100/101 and it felt more manageable. Still felt I was working really hard.

Workout is here

Legs feel tired now. Nice easy run tomorrow night.

First day of clean eating went well today ... even with the stress of Laura's episode :)

You've not added to your blog since Laura was sick - just checking there's not been a relapse?

No, she's OK ... combination of soreness after the Duathlon, pouring rain, lack of motivation, tiredness, in Auckland for 'work' over the weekend and doing something to my back Sunday morning when bending over (wrongly) to change the scales from pounds to kilos ... I think that's my full list of excuses ... if I think of any more I will add them. Laura seems fine and not affected by the episode. I just hope and pray that it doesn't happen again. Then I might get a bit more worried ... Howz your training going???
