Day 26 - 26th July 2012

Decided to go back to the gym yesterday (Wednesday) and try some slow running on the treadmill.

I put the treadmill on hill mode and chose the highest setting. This gave a course between 9% and 15% incline. Set the speed at 6.4km/hr and started the 15 min run. The 15% was insane but with the speed so slow it was more like a fast walk than a run. Still worked hard though. No problems with the calf so this might be the way forward for a bit. Low speed/high incline.

Just pleased to have survived with the calf intact.

Tonight was a quick interval session on the windtrainer. Twenty minute warm up and then 12 x 30 seconds, 14 gear (same as Tuesday's gear) but at a lower cadence. Tried to keep it between 98 and 101 ... HR is lower (obviously) but it still felt like a good workout. Tuesday's intervals at 102(ish) make me feel like I'm gonna die on about the 8th one but I think I could have done a few more tonight ... but my dinner was calling (Jo made a gorgeous mince curry!)

Family arriving tomorrow (cousin/husband/daughter) for a week's stay so training mught go a bit pear shape but I'm hoping to keep to some sort of routine ... and not go back to eating as I was a few weeks ago.

Day 24 - 24th July 2012

Re-joined gym on Monday

Calf was pulled about 20 minutes later ... RECORD!

I warmed up on bike, stretched, did some slow stuff on treadmill (including trying out the 15% incline - crazy!) and then did 12 x 30 second intervals at 13.5kph. On about the 5th interval during the REST period of the slowest jog in the world the calf tightened up and got ready to go ping. Fortunately I jumped off the treadmill before it did and got my @r$e out of the gym!

Bit of massage, ibuprofen and calf sleeve have helped and it doesn't feel too bad. Tonight was bike intervals and I got through them with no problem (or feeling from the calf) with the 2nd highest average speed for the intervals this year. Not sure if I'll jog lightly tomorrow or bike again. Will see how the calf feels. A medicinal walk:jog might be good for the calf. Nothing too fast.

Second night of the weight loss challenge. Last week was 93.9kg. Tonight 92.1kg. Happy enough with that. Got to do better than that next week though to win the thing. I'm eating healthy enough but need to work on portion control. Aim is to go under 90kg next week.
